Trump Takes Lead in Latest New York Times Poll

NEW YORK, NY — Former President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are locked in a tight race, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released Sunday. The poll found Trump leading Harris by a narrow margin of 48% to 47%, within the poll’s margin of error, just ahead of their scheduled debate on Tuesday.

The survey of 1,695 likely voters, conducted from Sept. 3 to Sept. 6, underscores the uncertainty surrounding Harris’s candidacy, with 28% of voters expressing a desire to know more about her platform. In contrast, only 9% said they needed to learn more about Trump. Five percent of voters were undecided or did not lean toward either candidate.

The poll results align with previous surveys from battleground states, showing a competitive race in key regions such as Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Harris has managed to retain some support from key Democratic groups, including women and Latino voters, but continues to face challenges in solidifying a clear lead.

Voters identified the economy and abortion as pivotal issues. Trump holds a 13-point advantage on economic matters, while Harris leads by 15 points on abortion. Despite her edge on abortion, many voters remain skeptical of her ability to deliver significant change from the current administration.

The first and only scheduled debate between the two candidates will be held on Tuesday night on ABC News.
